On January 21, 2006 the PBGYAA Softball program held a friendly softball tournament as a fund raiser to assist Bob Diskant, a long time softball coach and father of two of our Lady Gator's (Sarah & Amber Diskant), with medical expenses associated with his recent lung cancer surgery.  Bob had unselfishly dedicated countless hours over the years coaching softball to the girls within our program.  Additionally, he had generated numerous friendships within the travel softball community beyond our immediate area.  The outpouring of concern over Bob's heath and the commonly expressed desire to help he and his family through the difficult time they were facing, led us to the idea of hosting a one-day friendly softball tournament in which area teams could participate and in which all the proceeds of the tournament could be donated to the Diskant family. 

The response from the softball community was tremendous.  Teams from as far south as Miami and as far north as St Lucie County joined together for a day of fun.  The weather was beautiful as a total of 24 softball teams participated in games from 8:00am to 8:00pm.  Along with the teams, the day brought out a diversity of people including both past and present members of the softball community and good family friends.  Upon the conclusion of the day's events, the benefits of everyone's efforts were realized.  Not only did we raise over $11,000 for a friend in need, but we all realized the beauty of what had taken place.  We had been a part of a wonderful group of people that had scheduled their day to come together and support a worthy cause.  Regardless of area of residence or the names on the shirts, it was a day in which friendship meant much more than softball.
