Let the fun begin!

We are all sorry to see

the seasons come to an end.  We hope

everyone, kids and parents alike, enjoy

their experiences at the park during their recreational season!

Here it comes!
Another Fun-Filled Opening Day!

The following are a few photos from past years closing day ceremonies:

It all starts with the gathering of friends!

To often we overlook the beauty of the simple things...

like the joining of friends both new and old.

The hidden beauty of softball friendships was evident throughout  the day at the park!

Sometimes there are just not enough rabbit ears.

There's always time for a little shopping!

The games brought smiles to faces...

 ...and inspiration to their step.

While the three legged races were often awkward...

...the relay races had the girls fluidly flying.

Every now an then the fans had trouble restraining their enthusiasm!

As usual, Jammin' Jim had everybody dancing...

...some a little wilder than others, (Hanna for example).

The free burgers and dogs were great!

Hey, there's a Griller in the concession stand!

Shirt signings were taking place everywhere!

Everyone wanted their friends to garnish their attire!

All ages were doing it!

You could have made a fortune selling Sharpies!

After the trophies and pictures were passed out, everyone took

a seat for the big coaches game!

The stands were full of screaming fans and they wanted to see some quality softball played!

And here is a recap of what they saw...

COACH'S GAME RECAP

This year the league played it's first annual inter-league coaches game.  Thirty-nine coaches and assistant coaches showed for the big contest.  The teams were divided up by the league age groups in which they coached.  The T-Ball, 8's and 13+ divisions (younger and older coaches, here after called the Yolds) were pitted against the 10's and 12's coaches (here after called the Mids).  The Yolds were armed with two pitchers, Dave Fleming and Wally Eckler, while the Mids went the distance with Scott Eurich.

In the top of the first inning, the Yolds, (visitors) got things started with three singles by Craig Irwin, Dave Schwartz and Dave Fleming and plated the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the first the Mids answered.  With Fleming on the mound, Dave Morgan led off with a bunt single, Kathy Frye followed with a single to right and Morgan scored on a line drive to center by Pat Coyle.

In the top of the second, the Yolds scored two runs to take a two run lead.  Todd McKenna platted the go ahead run with a solid shot through the left side between short and third.  The inning could have produced more, but solid fielding, including a diving grab at short by Bob Diskant, followed by a perfect flip to second help keep the Mids in striking distance at 3-1.

In the bottom of the inning, with Eckler on the mound, the Mids scored their second run on a solid single to left by Gary Cohn tightening the score to 3-2.

In the top of the third, the Yolds were held scoreless.  Yet the inning was not without it's exciting moment.  With two outs and no one on, the league's fan favorite, President Mike Via, came to the plate.  With the crowd at a fever pitch, Mike fouled

off a pitch and then drew a walk.  However, this was no ordinary walk, as Mike broke for second following his trot to first.  Pitcher Scott Eurich caught a glimpse of Mike's daring attempted steal out of the corner of his eye, wheeled and fired a strike to Dave Morgan covering second to record the innings third out.

In the bottom of the third the Mids scored two runs off Fleming who was helped out of the inning when Kathy Frye was call out by umpire Steve Schiller for running the bases without her helmet. However, the damage was done and the Mids had the lead 4-3.

In the top of the fourth inning, with time running out, Craig

Irwin singled to left.  Dave Schwartz then hit a monstrous drive over the  right field fence (est. 255 feet), to put the Yolds in front by one 5-4.

In the bottom of the game's final inning, with the Mids needing one run to tie and two to win, they loaded the bases with one out against Eckler.  Wally, stepping up his game, recorded a strikeout on a 3-2 pitch to get the second out of the inning.  With two outs and the bases still full, Gary Cohn drove a fly ball to deep left-center.  Rick Peeples ran it down in the gap and made a Willie Mays catch, bobbling and then recapturing the ball to record the final out of the game!
