In the year 2001, a
shining light from
the Palm Beach
Gardens Softball
Program’s past,
Rachel Steele, age
21,
was tragically
lost. Rachel, the daughter
of Mike and
Kathy
Steele, long-time active
supporters of the
Gardens Softball
Program and highly
respected by all,
was known for
her love of life.
Her loss touched the
hearts of many, including the
numerous friends she
made while playing in
the Palm Beach Gardens
softball program.
In honor of her
memory, the PBGYAA
Softball Board
established a
collage scholarship
fund in her name.
Each year, past
players who
have participated in
our softball program
and are attending college
are offered the
opportunity to
apply for the
"Rachel Steele Scholarship" to
assist with their
collage expenses.
The recipients of
the scholarship
awards are
determined by a
review of submitted
applications and
academic records. The scholarship
review committee is
comprised of a
member of the Steele
Family, the active
league President,
Vice President, and
Treasurer, the
previous Board
President, and two
additional members.
Qualified applicants
must be currently accepted
or enrolled in a
college program and
have been a past
participant in
the Palm Beach
Gardens Softball
Program.
Applications for
consideration must
be completed and
received prior to
June 30th of each
year.
The following young
women are past
recipients of the
Rachel Steele
Scholarship:
Laura Mendes
Jessica Watson
Robyn Frohling
Ashley Havner
Karianne
Huffstetler
Ashley Parenteau
Amanda Simpson
Rachel White
Autumn Wiles
